A conference entitled ‘Smart Systems Integration 2013′ (SSI 2013) will be held from 13 to 14 March 2013 in Amsterdam, Netherlands. Smart systems are miniaturized devices that incorporate functions of sensing, actuation and control. They are capable of describing and analyzing a situation and taking decisions based on the available data in a predictive or adaptive manner, thereby performing smart actions. The whole system is subject to today’s trend of increasing demand for miniaturization, networking capability, energy-autonomy and reliability. Due to increasing complexity and multidisciplinary developing teams in fields of microsystems- and nanotechnology, the likes of optics, fluidics, biology, medical science, electronics and wireless communication technologies face highest demands.
A major challenge in smart systems technology is the integration of a multitude of components developed and produced from very different technologies and materials. Focus is on the design and manufacturing of completely new marketable products and services for specialized applications (e.g. in medical technologies), and for mass market applications (e.g. in the automotive industries).
The event aims to bring together various stakeholders to discuss and exchange on integration issues of miniaturized systems – MEMS, NEMS, ICs and electronic components. The event is part of the activities of EPoSS, the European Technology Platform on Smart Systems Integration.
